Bride to Healthy Smiles
What's New...
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced two public health initiatives targeting gaps in care for low-income individuals living in Cook County.  Part of the initiative allocates $1 million in grant funding for outpatient dental care.  BTHS played an integral role ensuring that this funding passed in the county FY2012 budget and will remain involved to advise how the funding is invested. This is another step towards improving access to oral health care.  Thank you for your continued support!

The Oral Health Care Crisis

Hardworking low and middle-income families suffer every day because of access barriers to critically needed dental services. Dental programs have been cut and clinics closed while the number of children and adults who rely on public dental care has increased. Illinois has among the lowest funding rates in the nation for many critical dental procedures. The Bridge to Healthy Smiles campaign is led by a diverse coalition of oral health care advocates and community groups committed to bringing dental care to the two million Illinois children and adults who rely on government sponsored health care. Our legislative plan offers a long-term solution:

  • Increase Reimbursement Rates
  • Develop Dental Homes for Illinois’ Children
  • Open Dental Clinics in Underserved Areas
